What can I say but welcome to my first ever review blog!
The title of this piece is “The Name Says It All”, because it does. This blog is called Late to the Races for a reason.
Just to familiarize yourself with me. I am, as a friend of mine once described me, a Luddite of sorts. For those of you who are googling the meaning of Luddite like I had to, it means someone who does not like new ways of doing things, specifically where technology is concerned. I suppose that is true to a certain extent.
I don’t have a smartphone so I’ve not kept up with what the cool kids are into these days. This is all new grounds for me. In my day job I work in a classroom and in the past my students liked to hold a glue stick toward me and remark that my phone was ringing (that’s how small my phone is) and once they even looked up my phone’s model online and put it on an auction site for a ridiculous amount of money labelled as ‘vintage’.
Okay this is a partial lie… I have a smartphone, but it is used for emergencies when I travel to other countries, GPS, and Uber etc. -Yeah I know how to order an Uber. I haven’t done it in over a year but I know how to if I needed to! I’m literally talkin’ that I bring that sucker out MAYBE once a year, so I don’t really count it.
I will choose a paper receipt over digital 9 times out of 10. I LOVE my CD collection. I prefer DVD’s to streaming services…. I even have a couple of VHS stashed away that I know I need to get converted to DVDs. My laptop has a disc drive by choice.
I prefer paper books to digital books, hence why it has taken me so long to get a tablet and start to even browse the digital book catalog available to it and even then I don’t think I’ve made it through 1 whole chapter of the one and only book I’ve downloaded for myself (by accident I might add, it didn’t ask if I wanted to confirm my purchase it just purchased it for me).
This Blog has come from realization to fruition at a strange time. The pandemic is no longer just a board game my friends and I play on game day weekends. It has delayed postal and delivery services and slowed down production and assembly of orders due to new sanitizing protocols now in place and inability for manufacturers to obtain the materials they need to make their product.
Making everything – and myself – ‘Late to the Races’ yet again.
While terrifying and saddening as this time is; it has created so many opportunities for people – while in isolation – for online vlogging, blogging, and whatever else is out there. This business idea however had actually sparked originally around Christmas when I got my original jewelry candle from my boyfriend as a present. I quickly bought a few more via Boxing Day sales and then began watching youtube videos of candle ring reveals to familiarize myself with the other companies and jewelry candle enthusiasts out there.
The business idea eveolved and thus this blog is a fun way for me to honestly review products and give a Canadian perspective on what it’s like to buy jewelry candles/beauty products, and subscription boxes as they are incredibly popular right now given everyone’s circumstances.
I will mainly focus on candle and bath product jewelry reveals (trying to get more than just rings if and when possible), and the odd unboxing or other online purchases with as well rounded reviews as I can give.
So kick back, relax and enjoy the reviews!
